Are You Ready for a Career Change?

by Lori Hudak

If you are reading this, chances are very high that the Beauty Industry interests you. Perhaps experimenting with hair or makeup is a hobby you’ve always loved. Think about it:

• Do friends ask you to do their hair or makeup for a special event?
• Do strangers compliment you on your look?
• Do you find yourself looking through magazines or the internet – not reading the stories, but instead looking at people’s hair, makeup or nails?

If these questions hit home, then you’re hooked – you love the Beauty Industry. You’re drawn to it – it’s your passion. So, why not turn that passion into a career? Imagine doing something you love every day – and making a living while living this dream.

Whatever your current job may be, are you finding yourself dreading going to work every day?
Do you find fulfillment in what you are doing? Do you feel accomplished? Can you see yourself in your current job until you retire?

Everyone deserves to be happy about and proud of their career choice. If you are feeling unsettled, then now may be the time to consider a change.

What do you do next?

Get prepared. Read about the life of a cosmetologist. See what a “typical” day brings. Can you see yourself in the career? Find a current cosmetologist who can mentor you through your career and support your dreams.

Go for it! You can do this – you can become a licensed cosmetologist and live your dream. Make the commitment to do so and nothing will stand in your way.

Make a plan. Are you able to attend school full time or do you need to attend part time? If you’re unsure about full time, consider the financial aid that may be available to you. Could you attend school full time and work a part time job? Or, is it better for you to work full time and attend school part time.

Research cosmetology schools. Your education is your investment in your future. You want to attend a cosmetology school that will help you reach your goals. Visit their website. Call and speak to a school representative. Take a tour. Be sure that the school you choose has the resources and willingness to be there for you every step of the way – from enrollment through graduation – and beyond!

Take the leap! You can do this – having the courage to change your life is the greatest hurdle. But, after you graduate and are in your dream job, you will never regret your choice. You’ve got this!
