She said that the funds raised by the cosmetology school students would go to Spruce Run and local shelters and that the Empire Beauty School in Bangor has a close relationship with Spruce Run. She said that, “this week we had Spruce Run here and they were helping to educate our beauty school students in the area of domestic violence.” According to WABI TV5, Guiggey said that “the beauty industry can be very personal” and beauty salon professionals “often have one-on-one time with your clients” and often detect or learn about incidents of domestic abuse and know how to report them properly.
The WABI TV5 report said that “Spruce Run offers 24-hour hotline services, emergency shelter, transitional housing, support and curriculum groups, and advocacy to victims of intimate partner violence.”
