Fashion and Beauty Trends from the 2014 AMAs

The American Music Awards ceremony has a long history of show stopping fashion and buzz-worthy performances. From Miley Cyrus’ singing cat, to Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean, artists bring their A-game to thank the fans, whose votes make the awards possible.

While this year didn’t bring us a “ Beyonce moment.” The red carpet was full of fashion inspiration.

Here are some of the hottest fashion and beauty trends from this year’s American Music Awards:

(Fergie, Olivia Munn, Julianne Hough)

The Feminine Warrior

Feminine fashion with fierce accessories were all over the AMA red carpet.  Warrior princesses paired elegant dresses with spiked earrings, gladiator sandals, and jeweled bird of prey.  Adding an element of strength to a soft look is right on trend for spring, and is an easy way to add some fight to your wardrobe right now.  Embrace your inner Katniss by wearing some arrow jewelry with your holiday finery, or add a snake bracelet to your every day look and harness your inner mother of dragons.

Quick Trend Tip:  Armor-inspired rings were everywhere!

(Meghan Trainor, Charlie XCX , Mary Lambert)

Old Hollywood Glamour

The looks of the 40’s and 50’s keep coming back for a reason…they work.  The AMA red carpet was full of Veronica Lake Waves, retro dresses, and perfect cat eyeliner.  Make this look work for every day by pairing a black lace top with a pair of jeans for a lady like twist on casual Friday, or swap your mini for a full, mid-calf length skirt. You will want to twirl through the holidays.

Quick Trend Tip: Slick one side of your hair back for an easy, sophisticated look.

(Karlie Kloss, Taylor Swift, Heidi Klum and Miss America, Kira Kazanstev)

The Two Piece Gown

Miss America, Taylor Swift, Heidi Klum, and Karlie Kloss can’t be wrong. Belly baring gowns are hot this year.  Expect this look to dominate the spring prom season!

Quick Trend Tip:  Wear a cropped sweater with a layering tank top for a casual look that is on trend.

( Top- Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Zendaya, Selena Gomez,

Disco Diva

Diana Ross showed up, and everyone fell in line. Plunging necklines, gold lame, full curly hair, men’s suits, and waist length locks a’ la Cher made the Nokia Theater into Studio 54.  Selena Gomez was channeling Bianca Jagger, and JLo went full on Liza with her sequined bodysuit and blazer. Adding 70’s style to your wardrobe is easy and fun.  A large pair of hoops, a sparkling top, or a pair of wide legged jeans can give your day a little hustle.

Quick Trend Tip: Foiled metallic eye shadow will be hot this winter and spring!!

This fashion at this year’s American Music Awards was surprisingly translatable to everyday wear. Of course, artists like Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Madonna, Katy Perry, Rhianna, and Pink were missing from the ceremony, so very few people were teetering over the fashion edge. Even Nicki Minaj behaved!

What were your favorite looks of the night? Who inspired you? Who failed miserably? Why do all of the guys get to wear jeans?
