WRTV Indianapolis reports on Empire Beauty Schools’ latest charity initiative in this May 5, 2010 broadcast.
Helping the Gulf Coast oil spill clean-up is as easy as getting a haircut. Indianapolis’ Empire Beauty School campus is boxing up hair clippings and shipping them to an environmental charity called Matter of Trust that will use them to help soak up oil along the Gulf.
Hair can be used to clean up beaches and oceans because it’s great at soaking up oil. It’s either manufactured into a hair mat or put into recycled hosiery to create “hair booms.”
Jessica Schoolcraft, an Empire Beauty School student, even decided to cut off two inches of her own hair. “I’m very passionate about the environment and the green movement and helping any way I can,” says Schoolcraft.
