Grants, Scholarships & Loans

The usual sources of financial aid come from grants, scholarships and loans.  If you qualify for a grant or scholarship, it would not have to be repaid unless certain stipulations are made as part of the contract. These often include maintaining classroom attendance and grade requirements. Loans of any type need to be repaid to the lender, with terms of the agreement stated at the outset. Interest is attached in most cases, and rates will depend on circumstances and ability to qualify. You can apply for government loans, personal loans, or a combination of the two.  Empire can also help potential students secure loans for living expenses while attending school, such as child care or transportation.

Subsidized & Unsubsidized

As a participant in the Federal Direct Student Loan Program, Empire offers both subsidized and unsubsidized student loans. It’s important to note the differences between the two types. A subsidized loan is based on financial need, and does not require interest to be paid while the student is enrolled in school. Once the student graduates and the grace period ends, then repayment of the loan with interest is required. An unsubsidized loan is not based on financial need, and interest accrues while the student is still attending school.
