pottsville-scholarshipBeth Richards-Koropchak, Empire Education Group corporate office employee, presented a $9,500 scholarship to a recent Pennsylvania high school grad to attend Empire Beauty School.

Emily Bakerofski, a 2008 graduate from North Schuylkill High School and also the first recipient of the scholarship funds, received the scholarship award based on the recommendation of the high school’s scholarship committee and faculty.

Beth, a North Schuylkill alumnae, won $25,000 from msn.com two years ago and decided to turn the funds into a scholarship at her alma mater for students planning to attend Empire Beauty School to study Cosmetology or the Cosmetology Educator program.

She noted the moment presenting the check to Emily as bittersweet.  “It’s such a good feeling making a difference in this girl’s life,” she said.

Beth gave Emily more than funding for her education, she also offered more insight into the beauty industry, which is made-up of hairstylists, platform artists, estheticians, color specialists, and an endless list of professionals.

“The sky’s the limit,” added Beth.  “Emily could work on Broadway doing makeup or anywhere,” said Beth.

Emily began her education at Empire Beauty School in Pottsville, PA, in June, which inspired Emily’s own mother to enroll at the school.  She will start in August, alongside her daughter.

“You never know, they could open their own salon one day,” added Beth with a smile.
