Industry friend and former owner of the Hanover Park Beauty College in Illinois, Gloria Sidell, was recently awarded the Patient and Volunteer of the Year Award by the ALS Foundation for her and her husband’s efforts with the organization.

The Sidells were recognized for their time and effort in increasing awareness of ALS, advocating for change with legislators and raising a significant amount of money for the organization.

In September 2010 the Sidells, along with overwhelming help from family and friends, organized the We Go for Glo team for the Les Turner/ALS Foundation’s Walk4Life fundraiser.  They raised nearly $10,000 in honor of Gloria and in support of the foundation.  The Sidells also hosted and organized additional fundraising efforts in support of ALS awareness such as a benefit concert, the numerous Manicures and Merlot salon events at the Best Salon & Spa in Buffalo Grove, as well as donating proceeds from the design and sale of awareness bracelets sold at area events.

Empire Education Group offers a scholarship for students – named in honor of Gloria Sidell’s dedication to the beauty industry as a lifelong Cosmetology Educator and industry advocate. Hanover Park Beauty College became the first Empire Beauty School in the Chicago area.glorial-sidell-2

Gloria was diagnosed in 2009 with ALS, which is more widely known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.  To date, there is no known cure or preventative measures for the disease which affects a person’s muscles.
