picture 10 tips for beauty school-resized-600Beauty school decision time.  You have always wanted to attend beauty school.  Now it’s time to pick the right school for you so you can obtain your cosmetology license.  You will want to make sure you’re picking the right school for you.  We proudly present, 10 tips on deciding which beauty school is right for you:

1. What, exactly, do you want to study?  Not all beauty schools offer the same course of study.  Some just focus on cutting hair, others incorporate make-up and business skills.

2. What career path do you think you’ll take?  To keep it simple, see above.  If you really want to do make-up, careful not to pick a school that just does hair … and vice versa.

3. Is the school accredited? Ask now in case you need funding later.  If you already know you need help affording beauty school, start with an accredited school.

4. Does the school offer financial aid and scholarships?  If you think you’ll need help affording beauty school, this is a huge deal.

5. What’s the curriculum, or course of study, like?  This kind of goes back to question number 1, but it’s really important. You need to make sure you get a few business skills and real life tips along with your hair cutting.

6. What’s the school’s reputation like in the beauty industry?  Attending a well respected school can help you achieve more with your beauty career.

7. What are the other costs of the beauty school program?  You know, like books and beauty tool kits.  Every school has supply costs.  Try to know them going in so you can be prepared.

8. Do you have hands-on opportunity at a student salon?  If you’re going to cut hair for a living, you may want to practice by cutting hair.  What better way to get used to doing this than with your teacher right there to guide you through the tough snips.

9. Where are you going to school?  Take a minute to consider your beauty career.  If you want to work with celebrities, you may not want to go to school in your midwest hometown.  There are lots of great ways to find a school throughout the U.S.

10. Do you need a flexible schedule? Evening classes can be awesome if you plan to work while you’re in school.  If you think you’ll need some day time flexibility, or night time, ask how flexible the class schedule is.
