monroeville educatorsDeirdre Kwiatkowski, an educator at the Empire Beauty School in Monroeville, PA, decided to take on the task of getting more involved with her community with the help of her students.

Kwiatkowski made bracelets, at her own expense, to sell during National Day of Beauty and the school’s own domestic violence campaign.  The purple awareness bracelets generated a $200 profit to benefit a local women’s shelter the school adopted.  Kwiatkowski then make pink bracelets in support of breast cancer awareness.  She even sent one to Robin Roberts, co-anchor of ABC’s Good Morning America program, who is also battling breast cancer.

Kwiatkowski continued her generosity toward the community by initiating the school’s food drive.  She challenged the students to bring in food to donate to the Pittsburgh Food Bank.  Over 400 items were collected and donated.

“I could not be more proud of our student body and this educator,” noted Leslie Ruffner, Executive Director of the Monroeville school.
