Gwinnett Students Provide Over 100 Free Haircuts for Homeless Children

gwinnett-hair-schoolEmpire Beauty School students from the Gwinnett, GA, school and staff participated in Children’s Restoration Network’s (CRN) 14th Annual Back 2 School Campaign for homeless children, volunteering their services and time for young ones in need.

“Making a difference in the lives of people who are less fortunate is very heart felt at the Gwinnett Campus.  Our students were honored to be a part of this event, and felt their lives would be more successful by giving back to the community,” noted Edna Owens, Director of Education for the Gwinnett campus.

The Empire students and staff also joined other local volunteers to assemble and fill back packs with supplies for almost 1,000 children.  Two days later, the students provided over 100 children with free haircuts at the Atlanta Union Mission: My Sister’s House.  The children also received free health immunizations, as well as dental and vision screenings from health care professionals.

“We all felt proud to serve and look forward to serving again. Our students are so excited about giving, we are now anxiously seeking more venues to share our talents and love for helping other,” added Owens.

I love this! Sometimes giving back isn’t about giving food and money. Homeless people need the resources we do, including grooming and haircuts. This is something that all beauty school should do. Keep up the good work!
