Manhattan Empire Beauty School Graduate Featured in The Daytona Beach News-Journal Article: “Cosmetology: A Bright Spot in Gloomy Employment Landscape”

April 1, 2009

A graduate of the Empire Beauty School in Manhattan in New York City was featured in The Daytona Beach News-Journal article, “Cosmetology: A Bright Spot in Gloomy Employment Landscape.”  The article begins by emphasizing that it can be very difficult to get a decent job in a tough job market. “But the good news is that…cosmetology is one field with cause for optimism,” according to the article. “The U.S. Department of Labor estimates the profession will grow by 14 percent from 2006 to 2016, a faster rate of growth than the average for all other occupations studied.”

The article states that “This growth rate is one reason that the industry now needs more new” beauty professionals “than it can supply, making cosmetology a career worth exploring.” The article advises that “The best way to pursue such a career, whether as a hairstylist, colorist, esthetician, nail technician or makeup artist, is to go to beauty school.” In the beauty industry, “Many stylists enjoy flexible work schedules, an increasingly common demand from those looking for a work-family balance.”

The article highlights the beauty career of Laura Umpierrez. “Within two months of graduating from Empire Beauty School in Manhattan” on West 34th Street next to the Empire State Building, Laura Umpierrez has secured an assistant position at a top hair salon.” The Manhattan Empire Beauty School grad “has worked at New York’s Fashion Week, the U.S. Open and on countless celebrities.” Laura Umpierrez says, “Doing what I love for a living, in such an exciting industry, has been a dream come true.”
