Owings Mills Event Features Air Forming Competition

by Empire Beauty School

owings-mills-air-forming The Owings Mills Empire Beauty School held three student competitions during their 100 Days of Empire Open House event; Nail Art, Styling and Air Forming.  The Nail Art competition was judged based on creativity, Styling required the students to create unique short hair styles on their mannequins, and the Air Forming competition required the students to style their mannequin’s hair using product, an air former and brushes or combs – no curlers or curling irons.  This competition was judged based on the body and volume of the hair and if the hair could hold the style when moved around or even turned upside down.

Prior to the competitions, the students and staff were busy on the salon floor – kicking off the days events early.  One of the most popular beauty services offered that day in addition to cuts and styles, were the manicures.

“The students were very excited about the event and we even had a customer tell us that she was from out of town and was taken aback by just how great the service was.  She was being  helped by a student who has just started working on the salon floor and she said she couldn’t have asked for a better student to work on her.  From the time she walked in the door this student was asking her if she was comfortable and relaxed and is she would like anything to eat or drink,” said Events Coordinator Jaclyn Becker.

The school presented the local women’s shelter they adopted the House of Ruth, with a check for $1,082.41.  The check was presented to the shelter by the Regional Director, Executive Director and the Student of the Month.

Fun was had by all during the day-long event in Maryland.
