Virtual Beauty Makeovers: Can they help you decide what looks best on you?

by Empire Beauty School

Deciding whether to cut your hair into a pixie hair cut like Halle Berry, or the new Jennifer Anistonlob” cut, or even better yet maybe you were thinking of changing your blonde hair to a brunette or red color for a more darker look. These decisions can be a little scary for some of us. Yeh, it may be winter but I don’t think wearing a hat indoors at work everyday will fly with the boss if we don’t like our hair. So how can we get an idea of what we will look like with these changes without fully committing to them?

Virtual Makeovers

Virtual Makeover applications

Virtual Makeovers are all over the beauty websites right now, from Elle, Marie Claire, Daily Makeover, Seventeen, etc. Plus, there are apps out there that you can download to your phone, iPods and iPads… iStylist, virtual makeover from daily glow and ModiFace, just to name a few. These online makeover tools allow you to try on your favorite celebrity hairstyles, change your hair color and experiment with make-up and accessories. Most of these online makeover sites are free or have a free trial and some of the apps for mobile devices are free or under $2.00, so it is relatively inexpensive to try before making that huge commitment. These online tools and apps are really easy to use…. all you have to do is take a picture of yourself. However, to get the best results follow these recommendations when taking your picture:

1. Gather all of your hair and pull it away from your face and off of your neck in a bun.

2. Take the picture straight on and look directly at the camera.

3. Don’t tilt your head.

4. Make sure lighting is even across your face and properly balanced.

5. Take the picture with closed lips.

You can have so much fun playing with these apps and tools. I literally spent hours one night giving my whole family new makeovers. Below is an example of how I made my brother-in-law look like a nerd just by giving him a Johnny Depp hairstyle, some extra facial hair and a pair of nerdy glasses. Even with out the extra facial hair and glasses, I don’t think he would ever be able to pull off the Johnny Depp hair, what do you think??
