Modern Princess Beauty

by Megan Murray

Once upon a Fall 2014, fairy tale princess beauty was everywhere. However, these princesses looked fresh and modern….not costumey and stiff! Everyone was enchanted by fabulous make-up and gorgeous hair.  We all lived fashionably every after…

2014 has been the year of the fairy-tale, and the fall will be no different. Here are some tips and tricks to give you modern princess beauty:

Twist all your hair in a loose updo at the nape.

The Party Princess

If one of the saddest moments of your life was when you realized that birds and mice don’t make fabulous dresses, the party princess look is for you.  Make easy beauty magic with a loose up-do, a pearl hair band, and perfectly lined pink lips. Keep your makeup from going into “Happily Ever After” territory by keeping your eyes clean. A little shimmer on the brow and inner corner of the eye and lots of lashes will keep the look casual. A beautiful light blue manicure and pedicure will keep things fresh, but don’t go leaving your shoe…

This look resembles a real life snow white!

Winter Princess

For those of you who like the idea of having an entourage of 7 or so, the winter princess beauty is for you.  The makeup is very simple: a very precise, thin, winged eyeliner is perfectly matched with a precise red lips and flushed red cheeks (yes, red cheeks…no need to be afraid! When applied with a gentle hand in a soft, circular motion, red blush is perfection.).   Wear your hair in middle parted loose waves, or a razor-sleek bob to take the look from the enchanted forest into fall 2014.  You can make the look extra-chic by forgoing the eyeliner and accessorizing with a red barrette and faux bob… you won’t want to stop looking in the mirror.

Let the silver eye shadow be the beauty focus.

Ice Queen

Let it go with this season’s hottest trend – metallic! Show your majestic side with a frozen silver eye, contoured cheeks, and pink stained lips. The look is minimal, icy, and powerful.  Just remember, with a such a clean face you need to very carefully conceal any flaws (see what I did there?!) . Of course, no ice queen look would be complete without a deconstructed side braid, but for a fashion-forward take, add a low, straight pony tail tied off with a silver chain.

Smokey eyes look regal when you pair them with matte lips.

Flapper Princess

Not every princess is from a time long ago. Lush, bayou green, smoky eye makeup with a subdued matte red lipstick evokes the feeling of the roaring twenties without looking like a costume.  Matte lipstick will be everywhere this year; it looks fresh and lasts, even through some…questionable kisses.  Top this look with a heavy bang, or a low-side bun for a touch of elegance.  Accessories are a must, so add a pair of dangling deco earrings or a floral hair clip.

This look is fresh, young, and creative.

Sea Princess

Add whozits and whatzits galore to your multi-textured ponytail to evoke the feeling of the sea siren.  Add fabric, shells, extensions, and/or chains to hair that has been curled, crimped, and or teased to take the boring pony from basic to bohemian beauty.  This look is on-trend with any hair color, but being fall, it is a great time for red.  Pair this aquatically beautiful look with earthy gold eye makeup, bold coral lipstick, or an unexpected swipe of aqua eyeliner. Remember, keep the makeup soft and sheer and you will leave everyone speechless!

The key to modern princess beauty is taking an iconic look and making it your own. Go as inspired or as on point as you desire. Remember, true beauty is about originality and imagination!
