Spring Beauty 2014

by Megan Murray

It seems like the entire country has been under a freeze! Parts of the country are seeing record cold, and it isn’t even the first day of winter. It’s easy to get the blues, but Pantone wants us to think…purple!

When the trend makers want to know what the next trend in color will be, they go to Pantone Color Institute.  Every season Pantone works with fashion and design influencers to create the Fashion Color Report, and every year Pantone releases a “Color of the Year” that represents the thoughts, hopes, and emotions of its time.

This year’s Pantone color of the year is “ Radiant Orchid” and it couldn’t be any prettier.

This near-perfect purple blends warm and cool tones together and is flattering to so many skin tones. It is a feminine, yet bold color that triggers the imagination. It is the color that fairy princesses are made of!

Spring beauty trends fall right in line. The keywords for spring are glowy, bright, and feminine.

Here are some of the most wearable trends for 2014:

White Shadow and Liner

A light application of iridescent white eye shadow from lash to brow gives eyes a fresh glow, and would perfectly complement the Radiant Orchid lip. Of course, white liner has always been the go-to tool to help make-up artists create the appearance of a larger eye!

Glittering Gold

Gold, sparkly lids were seen at Jason Wu’s show.  This look is surprisingly wearable, even for the glitter-phobes.  Gold shadow also helps neutralize under-eye circles, and makes blue-eyes pop

Bronzer

Healthy, glowing skin, with a hint of bronze, or gold for darker complexions, will be a must as the weather turns warmer.

Braided Crowns

Every little girl’s dream hair will be a staple this spring. Sure, you may be mistaken for a “ Sound of Music” reject, but it is worth it!

Cubed Eyeliner

There were also some looks that seemed to “buck” the airy-fairy trend.   At the Derek Lam show, the eyeliner was cubed at the end. This look is more modern and edgy, and perhaps forecasts a more geometric look that will be popular in years to come!

So, clear those dancing sugarplums from your head, and start getting ready for spring! As a beauty professional it is important to stay ahead of the trends, and be able to translate them for your clients.

What Spring 2014 looks are you most excited about? Do you think cubed liner will become an important trend? How will you use Radiant Orchid?
