Valentine’s Day Fashion and Beauty Tips

by Megan Murray

Love is in the air.

Valentine’s day is on its way, and while you may have visions of hearts and flowers, there are a lot of stylish ways to express your love and devotion. Whether you are feeling romantic, flirty, or downright surly here are some ideas to help you celebrate Valentine’s Day fashionably.

Dreamy Fabrics – Sheer fabrics and ruffles are hot. Designers like Dior and McQueen feature ultra-feminine fairytale dresses in their spring offerings.  A wistful sheer floral or ruffled blouse is the perfect way to take the runway to every day.  For those of us still in the deep freeze, a ruffled sweater is cozy and brings a little romance to your look.

Tip: Ruffles can go from zero to Toddlers and Tiaras fast, so keep the rest of your look simple.  Also, check your sheer fabrics in different lighting.  Some Valentine’s Day surprises are exciting. Others? Not so much.

Pastels – Pastels continue to be a fashion and beauty force. So, take a cue from those little candy hearts that no one eats and dress sweet. The possibilities are endless. For an edgy look, try a pastel-purple matte lipstick paired with fake lashes.  You can even take the pastel trend a step further and try pastel colors in your hair.  “Opal” color technique is subtle, delicate, and the hot 2018 hair trend.

Tip: Be your hair’s Valentine and make sure beauty professionals color your hair. Pastel hair should never come from a box!

Statement Eye Shadow – Some people welcome cupid, and some people want to swat the little guy out of the sky. If you fall into the latter group, never fear, dark, smudgy eye makeup is on trend for spring.  Design houses like Tommy Hilfiger and Giorgio Armani showed makeup that was fierce and fresh; the perfect look for the anti-Valentine’s day set.

Tip: If, midway through the day you change your mind and want to feel the love buzz, add a little glitter. The glitter gives smoky eyes a dreamy look.

GO RED – Of course, Valentine’s Day is the perfect time for a bold red lip and a little red dress, but it is also a great time to support the American Heart Association.

Tip: Stop by an Empire Beauty school near you for a $5 red manicure. Proceeds will be donated to the American Heart Association.

You don’t need a Valentine to have a great Valentine’s Day.  Love who you are and embrace your uniqueness. Show off your style and have fun!
