Braids

Braids are everywhere this year and can add an element of interest to any head of hair.  There are so many types of braids it’s impossible to list them all, but head over to youtube and you’ll find countless tutorials on braids of all kinds! However, while braids are a great way to keep your hair out of the way during the dog days of summer, consider your age.  Women over 30 should consider a more conservative look—think one single fishtail braid down the back or to the side or one braid wrapped around a bun. Avoid small, cutesy braids around the face. A good rule of thumb—if it looks really cute on a three-year-old, don’t do it.

The Low Ponytail

From loose and messy to straight and chic, the low ponytail is everywhere this year.
Maybe it’s the versatility of this simple style that keeps it showing up on fashion runways. Whatever the case, it’s a look that take you from day to night, from work to play and from practical to all primped up.

Waves, waves, waves

Boho or bombshell. Boho waves can easily be achieved. If you’re naturally curly or wavy, wrap hair in a bun or in a few braids after the shower and let dry. Undo, tousle and spritz with salt spray or hair spray. Straight-haired women can create the look with a 1-inch barreled curling iron. Curl several large chunks, starting at eye level down, then style with fingers and spray with hair spray. To create the true bombshell look, all women need to reach for the hot rollers. Fine haired women need the volume hot rollers give and curly-haired women need to smooth out unruly curls and frizz.

Texture

Yes, slightly messy hair is actually fashionable! This look is all about embracing what you were born with. Let that curly hair alone! Put away the straightening iron! You truly can have “wash and go” hair with a textured style. The good news is that you don’t need to be a model to get it. A little salt spray and backcombing can do the trick. If you wear your hair up, pull a few pieces out and tease. If you don’t have natural texture and want it, talk to your stylist about texturizing treatments that add wave to your hair without tight curls.

Half & Half

Carrie Underwood, Blake Lively and Angelina Jolie are just a few of the mass of celebrities sporting this look on the red carpet in 2015.  This style can highlight cheekbones and have an overall lifting effect on the face.  It’s typically a smooth, pulled back look on top, and long, flowing curls on the bottom.  Sweet and stylish at the same time!  You can also do braided sides with cascading curls, or go for a modern look with slicked back sides and long sleek locks in the back.  Whether you are headed to a prom, a wedding, or a summer party, this is a great formal style that works for lots of occasions!
