Lights, Camera, Hairstyles!

by Empire Beauty School

Ever since Clara Bow showed ladies of the world how good you can look in a bob with bangs, movie and TV stars have been a driving force in the beauty industry. While high-fashion trends may seem out of reach for most, a media inspired hairstyle is an easy way for anyone to update their look.  While everyone is still looking for the lightning in a bottle that was ” The Rachel”, there is still a lot of hair inspiration to be found on screens both big and small.

Movie hairstyles sparkleSparkle – How can you not be inspired by a movie about a 60’s girl group? From mod to glam and everywhere in between, this movie can launch a thousand heads of hair. Whitney Houston’s last film is like eye-candy for hair, make-up, and costume enthusiasts.

Movie Hairstyles hunger gamesHunger Games – Yes, we all know about Katniss’ braid. We’ve allworn a Katniss’ braid. The citizens of the Capitol, however, have a dizzying display of colors and cuts. While most women won’t want to look exactly like Effie Trinket,  her head of well coiffed waves may inspire a few up-dos.  (I actually want someone to look like Effie Trinket, so if you have pics send them my way!!)

Movie Hairstyles - Perks of being a wallflowerThe Perks of Being a Wallflower
– Emma Watson is back with an American accent and the most perfect crop of the season.  This movie is guaranteed to be a favorite with the teen set and will most definitely send a few clients to your chair with her picture in hand.

Movie Hairstyles Downton Abbey

Downton Abbey-This unexpected hit out of the BBC is a drama that follows an aristocratic English family from the sinking of the Titanic through World War One and into the 20s. The show’s hair styles are breathtaking. Finger waves and dazzling hair adornments are on the radar again. The “Downton Inspiration” has already been co-opted by Marc Jacobs and Luis Vuitton, so work really hard on your finger waving technique.

Movie Hairstyles BraveBrave- This movie should be an inspiration for all of those with amazingly curly hair. As someone who has hair so straight you can hang your wall pictures by it, I find a head full of voluminous ringlets enviable. Work with your curls and you too can be formidable and fearless.

Of course, as hard as we try to predict trends, something always comes out from under the radar. A TV show no one is expected to watch  (Glee? Anyone?) or a movie that becomes a cult classic has often defined the look of any given season.

Which TV show or movie do you think will rock the beauty world this year?
