In this article, Lori Crowell reports that “According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the career outlook for cosmetologists is expected to increase 12 percent from 2006 to 2016.” She says that “If you enjoy keeping pace with the fast-moving world of beauty and are looking for a creative way to express yourself while earning a good living, a career is cosmetology may be right for you.” Dorothy Soressi, Vice President of Industry Relations for Empire Education Group, says “Job flexibility is a big advantage to this career, especially for those with a family who wish to create their own schedule.”

The article also emphasizes that it’s important to choose the right beauty school, “one that prepares” beauty school “students for the real world” of beauty salon work. “This preparation involves learning the theory behind cosmetology” and “the practical skills of haircutting and finishing, hair coloring, chemical reforming, manicuring and skin care and makeup. It’s important to choose your specialization before enrolling in cosmetology school.”
