6 Must Have Winter Accessories

by Megan Murray

Do you want to build a snowman? Me neither…but, there are few things as inevitable as the winter. Although the temperatures are dropping, it is time to turn up your style.

Here are 6 great winter fashion accessories to keep you looking hot despite the chill:

1.  Boot Socks

Keep cozy with the latest incarnation of the leg warmer. These must-have fashion accessories not only add a layer of warmth, they can add a cute cuff, a hint of lace, or some whimsical brightness to even the most sensible boots. This winter, look for socks in fair-isle prints for an easy way to add the folk-chic fashion trend to your wardrobe.

2.  Printed Coat

Now, we’ve all been told to choose a solid, neutral coat to chase away the chill. Ignore that advice. This winter, be a fashionable pop of color against the dullness of the winter landscape. Prints and embellishments are hot this season.  Try a coat with a luxe fairy tale print, or be fierce with leopard and faux fur. And nothing says you are ready for winter more than plaid.

3.  Blanket Sweater

On those days when you just want to stay in bed, a blanket sweater is a good compromise when you have to get things done.  These oversized wraps add a boho fashion flavor to a t-shirt and jeans, but they are versatile enough to add artistic flair to the most conservative pieces. Try a colorful southwestern print with a simple black dress and boots for a look that is professional and edgy!

4.  Tights

When future generations speak of our technological advancements they will mention smart phones, ears grown on mice, and fleece lined tights. Now there is no good reason to put your cutest dresses and skirts away.  Fleece lined tights are warm, come in an array of colors and patterns, and do an incredible job of keeping all the right curves in all the right places.

5.  Berets

You can dream of April in Paris while fighting off the winter cold. This timeless fashion accessory looks chic, keeps your head warm, and will not give you a case of the dreaded “ hat hair.”  You can go knit, go felt, or go all out with sequins!

6.  The Cowl

It’s a Scarf! It’s a hat! It’s both, and it is destined to be a huge fashion trend this year.  The cowl is one part practicality, one part fairy princess, and warm enough to get you through the most frozen winters.  The cowl is also good for delicate hair and can help reduce static electricity that leads your strands astray.

Winter demands practicality, but it shouldn’t exclude style. This is the season to be bold and unexpected. Wear a sensible parka with a jeweled pin. Pair snow boots with lacy tights. Tie your winter scarf into a bow. The days are too short not to have fun!
