Spring Trends for Real Life

by Megan Murray

In a perfect world, you would have a closet full of the latest trends for every season. Unfortunately, time, money, and dress codes get in the way!  Luckily, with a little creativity, and beauty know-how, you can overcome any barrier to a fresh, new look.

Here are some easy ways you can update your look with the new spring trends.

Floral:  Floral patterns in bold mixes of colors are hot for spring.  Colors like poppy-red and orchid explode on everything from scarves to overcoats. If you don’t have the cash for couture, or just not comfortable wearing bold patterns, take the floral theme into you hair, make-up, and accessories.  Pairing an orange-red lip with a wash of orchid eye shadow is right on trend. Try a red flower clip in your hair with this season’s mermaid waves, or try a bold, red shoe to spice up a neutral outfit.

Sports – Sports themed looks are a hot spring trend. Even super-feminine designer Stella McCartney went varsity.

If you aren’t quite ready for spring training, you can easily bring sporty elements into your every day look. Nothing says sports like bold stripes, so get a striped manicure in your team’s colors. Try a black cat eye with a white accent, or just go fresh-faced with a simple black headband.

Metallic-  In a perfect world, well…in my perfect world, gold lame would be a neutral, but in the real world it just doesn’t scream, “business casual.”   Of course, the easiest route to incorporate metallic into your look is eyes shadow and eyeliner; however, this spring’s metallic look is more 70’s, so try something a little more luxe, like a pink lip with a gold gloss ombre. Put a gold chain into a side ponytail for an expensive look. Highlight the tops of your cheeks with a hint of gold powder, or dust yourself with shimmer.

Geometric Prints – This trend is easy and very user-friendly, but don’t be afraid to push it to the edge.  Try geometric eyeliner, nail art, or a short hair cut with lots of angles. Bold, geometric hair accessories can take a messy-up do and give it a futuristic flair. Don’t be afraid to play with soft and hard angles. This look is for everyone, and the ideas are boundless!

As with any trend, don’t let your originality get lost. Take elements of style and make them your own. If your complexion lends itself better to silver, make silver look luxe. If you think bold colors don’t flatter, use a pretty pastel floral palette, instead.

Trends are about making you look fresh…not fake!

How are you updating your look this spring? Will you try orchid and poppy? Will we ever get spring weather?
