Holiday Party Looks

by Lorraine Letcavage

December is here, and that means it’s party time!

Holiday events call for stepping up your glam game, as many friends, family and co-workers will gather in sparkly settings. You’ll want to shine at the festivities by choosing a put-together holiday hair look sure to turn heads. And since partygoers will want to capture the merriment for social media, here are some ideas to get you (and your hair) Instagram ready:

Messy Updo

This look has been a favorite way to look elegant and carefree at the same time. Go from gym to glam with the ‘do that’s super easy to achieve. Start with a basic ponytail that sits high on the head, then pin it loosely. Pull out a few random pieces to frame your face if you choose. Short or long, this style speaks party for sure!

Top Knot

The top knot trend is still going strong and can be worn super-smooth or messy if a tousled texture is more your style. This works best with longer hair to get the full ballerina-like look at the top, or your talented cosmetologist can work their magic no matter what the length. Be sure to dazzle ‘em with bold earrings to balance your facial features.

Sassy Pixie

Don’t fret, short-haired vixens, this look’s for you, and it’s stunning! Whether you have a sleek, wavy, or curly cut, your party style looks best well-ornamented. Cute accessories are key to pretty-up the pixie, so go bolder at holiday parties. Add a rhinestone barrette to side-swept bangs, a velvet headband, or long shimmery earrings to accent the fun of this cut.

Slicked Back

This runway favorite might become your go-to party style. Long or short, it screams red-carpet when done correctly (see video tutorial here). Start by applying a styling cream to damp hair. Then blow-dry while brushing hair straight back, adding extra volume at the crown. Work through more gel for an almost wet look (think hair just out of the pool but much more polished). Place bobby pins right behind ears for staying power as you work the crowds.

Why let the ladies have all the fun? Men can rock this look too! Hollywood hunks can attest to the timeless allure of this hairstyle. Follow the guidelines above or stop by a cosmetology school for the latest and greatest cuts and styles. You too will be party ready in no time!

Side-Braids

For a quick and fun change to your regular style, why not sport a side braid to your next event? Braids are not only versatile (all textures and lengths can wear them), but they’re sure to be noticed just by being different. The more creative, the better! Low Bun

There are so many ways to wear the low bun hairstyle– loose, rolled, braided, wavy, and slick- that you might change it up for each event. And why not? It’s so easy to just take your dried hair, sweep it back to secure at the nape, then add pizazz to suit your personal style. Low buns are the chic version of a low ponytail. Have your stylist add an extension or braid to really make the look pop. You’ll be party ready with confidence!
