by Empire Beauty School

We all LOVE what our hair looks like right after we get it colored, right??? But does it seem just after a week it starts to fade away?  Do you want to know how you can prevent this?  Follow some of these tips and hopefully you will see your hair color last longer.

Tip #1

Condition – a couple days before you go and get your hair colored or retouched make sure you shampoo your hair really good with a clarifying shampoo and then use a deep conditioner to add some extra moisture to your hair before your hair color service.  Try not to wash your hair the day of getting your hair colored, the natural oils in your hair will help the hair color stick to your hair better.

Tip #2

Hair Care Products – After you receive your hair color service, you will need to make sure you have the proper shampoo and conditioner for your hair.  You will need one that is specifically for color-treated hair.  The best thing for you to do is talk to your stylist. They will be able to recommend wGoldwell hair colorhich shampoo and conditioner will work best and keep your color lasting longer. Also, try not to wash your hair every single day, the more you wash it the quicker it will fade.

Tip # 3

Washing your Hair – when you are washing your hair use lukewarm water; not too hot but warm enough to open the cuticle of the hair. Washing with too hot of water will dry your hair out. After you apply conditioner to your hair let it on for 2-3 minutes. Once you are ready to rinse the conditioner out of your hair make sure you use rinse with cold water.  This is very important because you need to close the cuticle of the hair back up to seal in the protein.

Tip #4

The Sun – this is one of the biggest things that can cause your hair to fade easily.  If you plan on spending a lot of time in the sun the best thing to do to protect your hair is try and keep your hair covered with something like a bandana or a cute hat.  If you are going somewhere where a hat is not appropriate talk to your stylist because there are products out now with sunscreen that you can apply to your hair to help protect it from the sun. These products can also protect your scalp from getting sun burn too.

Tip #5

Swimming – If you just got your hair colored, try and avoid going under water in the pool or getting your hair wet.  Chlorine in pool water can make your hair very dry and strip your new hair color out.  If you have very light color on your hair it can also cause it to turn green.
